Privacy

Last updated June 2026

Kempt is built local-first, so the privacy policy is short on purpose. Your notes, tasks, and projects are yours.

Your content stays on your computer

Everything you write in Kempt is stored as plain Markdown files in a folder you choose on your own device. We never receive, store, or have access to your notes. There is no account to create and nothing to upload to use the app.

No tracking inside the app

The desktop app does not contain advertising or third-party tracking, and it does not send your content anywhere.

Updates

To keep the app current, Kempt checks our update server (hosted on Cloudflare R2) for new versions and downloads them when available. This involves a normal network request and does not include any of your notes.

AI is optional

Kempt works fully offline with no AI. If you choose to turn AI on, your requests go to the AI provider you connect (for example, Claude) under that provider's own terms. Turn AI off and nothing is sent. We do not run an AI service in the middle.

Cloud sync (later, and optional)

A future optional cloud sync will let you sync across devices. It is being designed with end-to-end encryption, so even then we would not be able to read your content. It will always be opt-in, and this page will be updated before it launches.

The website

This site is served by Cloudflare Pages. We may use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count visits, with no personal profiles and no cross-site tracking.
